The grinding technique of glass
The grinding of glass refers to the grinding of the surface defects of glass products and the remaining protruding parts after forming, so that the products can achieve certain optical requirements and regular geometric shape.
It is divided into two types: surface grinding and side grinding. For example, when making mirror glass, under the action of pressure and rotary force of the grinding disk, the rough surface of the blank plate glass is constantly damaged and shed by abrasive, and finally becomes a flat and opaque plane.
According to the grinding process, it can be divided into coarse grinding and fine grinding. The coarse grinding is to use coarse abrasive to grind off the rough or remaining part of the glass surface and grind out the required shape and size. But the glass surface after rough grinding will leave concave layer and crack layer, need fine abrasives for fine grinding, make the concave pit and crack layer become finer.
Commonly used grinding materials include emery, corundum, fused corundum, silicon carbide, boron carbide, quartz sand, among which the grinding allowance of plate glass is small, large area and large amount, generally choose cheap quartz sand, optical glass and daily glass grinding allowance is large, so generally choose high grinding efficiency of corundum or natural emery.
The main technological factors affecting the mechanical grinding process of glass include: abrasive properties and particle size, abrasive suspension concentration and feed amount, grinding disc speed and pressure, grinding disc material, glass hardness.
